Nature Notes

We started the early morn in the dark, sipping our coffee with our four pups nestled by our feet and a Great Horned Owl hooting nearby. The sunrises from the Kingston deck are individual, unique and stunning with deferring arrays of cloud cover to morph from gray to blazes  of fire colors and then fade into day. Our morning is usually accompanied as well by a Yellow-Breasted Chat.

We have been enjoying a visitor for the last week on a blooming Plumeria plant happily enjoying the monsoon moisture from the haven protection of the covered porch. She hangs upside down beneath the flowers and her wingtips are ruffled, mimicking the plumeria leaves. But the fascinating detail Nichole noticed was that her legs have taken on the pinkish hue of the flower stems: she blends in. Nature is awesome!

We wondered what would happen when it rained so we looked. She was sheltered under one of the big Plumeria leaves. Silly insect.
